Coming Soon—Short Stories

Hello! Bit of a PSA-style post here:

Starting in March 2024, I’m going to be posting short stories twice a week on the blog for the next twenty-six weeks.

These are not new stories—you can buy all 52 of them right here as an eBook or paperback in one convenient (and admittedly hefty) collection. It’s the sort of book about which you can say, “Wow, I could use this as a doorstop once I’m done reading it!”

(Note: saying that really depends on how heavy your door is.)

This idea of mine might seem counterintuitive. And maybe it is, but we learn by trying new things. Sometimes those new things are mistakes, but that’s how we grow.

While the books found on this blogsite aren’t my only source of income (thank goodness), I would like to be able to support my family financially through my writing.

So why am I posting these short stories here on the blog for free? Don’t I want you to buy them?

Those are fair questions.

First of all, I have no complaints if you decide to buy something I wrote. (In fact, I welcome and encourage it. Please—tell your friends and family about the book if you think they’d like it too!) Your support means more to me than you can possibly know.

But let’s face it, buying just about any book in today’s day and age is a serious commitment. There are so many possibilities out there—just finding one can be overwhelming. Buying a book of 52 short stories… Well, unless you already know you like the sorts of things the author writes, that’s a major commitment—and an incredible leap of faith. Not to mention that short story collections typically don’t sell as well as other books—especially if people don’t know the author.

At the time of writing this, I’m not a well-known author in any sense of the word. I might never be. (And that’s okay!) I’m not complaining, I’m just stating the facts here. I write and tell stories because that’s what I love doing. Anything beyond getting to do that is an added blessing!

If you don’t know me personally, I want these short stories to be an opportunity for you to get to know me and the sort of things I write about.

The last thing I want is for the price of a book to come between you and a chance to read one of my stories. If you read and enjoy them, who knows? You might enjoy other things I write as well…

In a previous post, The Power & Promise of Stories, I wrote that stories are doorways to other worlds.

That much is true—and there are many different stories and doorways through which you can walk on this blogsite. Some doors take you to tales of myth and magic; others to stories of love and loss; friendship and bravery; imagination and creativity; search and discovery. Some of the doorways lead to worlds that are frightening—full of monsters and darkness. Others are comforting—full of warmth and kindness.

The many doors stand before you, Dear Reader.

Pull up a chair and get cozy. Adventure awaits…
